The Story Map, which provides an interactive experience, is here:
We have now formed a Kayak club. We will plan some paddles and may also do some last minute evening trips when the weather permits. We’ll hopefully do some ocean day trips as well as paddle some of the lakes in our area.
We will operate it like the Hiking club, ie we’ll plan a paddle and then email interested parties to see if they want to join us.
We had a sign up sheet at the April general meeting, but if anyone else is interested, please contact me with your email address and I’ll add you to the group for this activity.
I will send out an email to interested parties, and poll about days that work as well as areas the group would like to tackle.

“Do not open your hives and peek at your bees until the dandelions bloom.” “Do not prune the roses until the forsythia blooms.” There are so many rules for spring. The dandelions and forsythia are blooming but the incessant rains have dampened springtime activity. The golfers, hikers, walkers and bikers among us are longing for dry, warmer days. I am confident our returning snowbirds are bringing warmer, drier weather with them. Welcome home.
March was National Probus Month and our club celebrated with an Annual Pancake Breakfast at our March meeting. Thank you to all the volunteers and organizer Barry Chapman for a very enjoyable and tasty pancake breakfast. The Canadiana Quiz taxed our water-weary brains but made for lots of camaraderie.
April may be tax month but at the Probus Club of Lantzville we know how to turn April into a fun month. The Spring Luncheon will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Fairwinds Golf Course. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 12:30. Our regular monthly meeting will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018. I am looking forward to both events.
At our next meeting on April 26th Bill Corsan (City of NanaImo Deputy Director of the Community Development Department) will talk about the proposed Nanaimo Waterfront Walkway.
Nanaimo’s harbor is one of our City’s greatest assets, and the existing waterfront walkway showcases its natural beauty. Work is underway to extend the waterfront walkway as well as improve connections between it and the City’s other trail networks. The long-term goal is to create a continuous multi-use trail from Departure Bay to the Nanaimo River Estuary.
The presentation will summarize the Waterfront Walkway Implementation Plan that was endorsed by Council in December 2017 and focus on the expansion projects being planned for 2018/2019.
Would those members planning to attend the Ladies Luncheon at Beach Fires tomorrow please park in the spaces with green lines which are free for those having lunch.
The Spring Luncheon will be held Tuesday, April 24 at Fairwinds Golf Club. The doors open at 11:30 am and lunch will be served at 12:30 pm.
There are 8 tickets left. Cost for members is $27.00 and guests $32.00 per person. Please contact Barry Chapman to purchase these tickets and make arrangements to pick them up.
We sadly announce long time Probus member Hap Armstrong’s beloved wife Donna passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Hospital on Saturday, April 7 with family at her side. Our thoughts and prayers are with Hap and his family.
